Published on September 12, 2014. Since the Swedish general election is taking place this weekend I wanted to take a look at historical election results to the Swedish Riksdag (the parliament). I have visualized the results in a stacked area chart together with voters turnout. The data has been collected from Statistiska centralbyrån (SCB), the Swedish government agency producing official statistics, and the website of the Swedish Government.

You do not need to be a Swedish citizen to vote in municipal and county council/regional elections. Prior to the elections, the Election Authority sends out a polling card to all those who are allowed to vote. The polling card is send to the address at which you are registered. You must take identification with you when you go to vote. Questions specific to the 1970 election study are those on public representation on bank boards, Swedish membership in the Common Market, and aid to developing countries. There are also questions about the respondent´s opinion of the Social Democratic government, and on what the respondent wants the parties to accomplish on national and local level.
